About the Urban Forestry Program at VT

The Virginia Tech Urban Forestry Program is housed in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation within the College of Natural Resources and Environment.

We are located on the campus of Virginia Tech in the Town of Blacksburg, which is nestled in the New River Valley between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains.

  • Our mission is to advance the science and practice of urban forestry through research, education, and outreach.
  • Our research spans a range of basic and applied science topics addressing the challenges faced in urban forest ecosystems.  We collaborate with a diversity of partners on-campus, in the region, and across the nation to conduct impactful research.
  • Our academics offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in urban forestry, preparing students to meet their education and career goals in a broad range of interest areas.
  • Our faculty and staff are experts in their fields and work closely with our students and partners to achieve the goals of our mission.
